1. Townsend street businesses – Ray Gear will be speaking about some of the business people in the northern end of Townsend Street up to 1870, when it was Albury’s main street. In was only in the late 1870s that Dean Street took over as the main street of Albury.
2. Fires & Fire Fighting in Albury, 1865-1916 – In the 50+ years between 1865 and 1916 there were at least 30 fires that destroyed or severely damaged business premises in central Albury. Many were judged “wilfully & feloniously lit.”Add to that list a large number of house fires. In spite of this, it took four attempts before an effective fire brigade was formed. Greg Ryan will relate part of that story.
